Character Development...

This little lady has changed a lot! I like reworking old characters and giving them a new look (the purple swimsuit is the newest design). This character is from my book dummy SPLASH! and she LOVES the ocean.

This little lady has gone through so many changes...lol but I'm really liking this version a lot! I think with every revision I do she has to look a little different to match the revision! smh! This wouldn't be the finished illustration but I like drawing this way from time to time! :)

In Her Window

I doodled these little color thumbnails the other day...It's based on my Granny who passed away earlier this year. She sat in her window everyday and watched the world go by. So I thought what would happen if something or someone forces her to leave that window...?

I've been playing with this image for some time...just playing around with style and ideas. I don't think the end result will be this style but it's nice to play around!

The Box/Saturday Morning

This is a story I came up with some time last year about 3 friends that find a pair of sneakers that have some interesting qualities. I've been working on it off and on as a "just for fun project". So it's slowly growing as an idea and story. I'm play with simplifying characters, playing with composition, and storytelling.
This story started because I had this thought about what if the opening of a book is just the characters legs? The spread below is pretty much the visual of that thought. Where are they going? Where did they come from? Who are they? I just love the mystery behind this illustration. Does this make you curious about the characters? Does this make you want to know more.
I'm thinking the more we move through the story we'll see more and more of the characters... so we really get to know them and care about them and their friendship.
Title shift, I've never really had too hard of a time coming up with titles but this story took some time to even come up with a working title. I settled on "The Box" but I just started thinking about (if you're a sneaker head) that the most exclusive sneakers usually release on Saturday morning so I thought hey, Saturday Morning could be the title maybe the kids find the sneakers Saturday morning! :)

This is a page that got cut from my latest book dummy. I really love all the animals around Kayla, our main character, but unfortunately this page didn't really help push the story forward. BUT now I get to use it to figure out the look of this story and it's getting me super excited! :)
